This is used as prophylaxis and treatment of both ventricular tachycardias and supraventricular tachycardias.

It has a complex mode of action including a weak beta blocking action leading to its contra-indication in patients with severe obstructive airways disease.

Side effects include constipation, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, bitter taste, diarrhoea, headache, postural hypertension, bradycardia, conduction block, hypersensitivity, seizures and myoclonus.
