The lateral spinothalamic tract carries sensation of:

  • pain
  • temperature
  • crude tactile sensation

These relay in the cord (posterior horn), and cross the midline a few segments higher to the opposite spinothalamic tract. They then travel in the lateral spinothalamic tract to the thalamus.
