The optic radiation is the portion of the visual pathway passing from the lateral geniculate body (LGB) on both sides to the visual cortex, on the banks of the calcarine fissure of the occipital lobe. It carries information from the retinae concerned with the contralateral half of the visual field.
Some of the fibres in the radiation pass from the LGN anteroinferiorly through the temporal lobe as Meyer's loop. This route carries information from the upper and outer parts of the visual field.
