Bactericidal is a term meaning destructive to bacteria - bactericidals actually kill bacteria (cf bacteriostatic).

Bactericidal agents include:

  • penicillins
  • cephalosporins
  • aminoglycosides

They are particularly indicated when the host defences are poor.
