CK is raised in:

  • muscular dystrophies - very high early in the early stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy; levels decrease with time. There is an increased proportion of CK-MB.
  • polymyositis
  • rhabdomyolysis
  • elevated levels are found in up to 40% of patients with motor neurone disease and in some other conditions associated with denervation

Note that strenuous exercise increases levels.
